* Note: I update this periodically as my favorites change, so while this was posted a while ago, it is up-to-date with my current favorites *
This morning I ran out of dry shampoo and hairspray. As I put these items on my “re-purchase” list, I thought I would put together a blog post on my favorite beauty products. As I created this blog post, it became super long, therefore I split it into two parts: Part I Hair and Skincare, Part II Makeup.
I’m picky when it comes to my products, so these have all been Megan-tested and approved. This is not an all-inclusive list, these are just my absolute favorites in specific categories. I’ve tried out most of these products for the better part of a year. Pretty much all of these products can be found at Walmart, Target, Ulta Beauty, Sephora, or Amazon. When we lived in North Dakota, I did much more online shopping, now I do more in-store shopping for these items. They range from affordable to splurge. Over this past year I’ve found affordable versions of products that run out quick – hair and skincare. Meanwhile I will splurge on items that I don’t have to replace (make-up brushes) or that will take a long time to go through (certain make-up products). I will give a quick description as to why I like these products as well.
I’m not trying to encourage you purchase any of these products. I simply love when people share what products work for them, so I just wanted to share what works for me!
Hair: (My Least Favorite Part of Getting Ready)
Heat Protectant: I use this on wet hair before I blow dry and on dry hair before I curl. TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray
Dry Shampoo: I go through an embarrassing amount of dry shampoo. I use dry shampoo for texture in my hair when it’s super clean and I use it to absorb the oils in my hair when I go a day or so without washing my hair. This will leave a slight white cast if you hold the bottle too close to your hair, but a quick brush through removes the white cast easily. I like that this shampoo has a fresh scent, not perfume-y at all. Not Your Mothers Shampoo Dry Clean Freak Refresh
Texturizing Spray: This is dry shampoo on steroids without being crunchy. I use this to help my very straight hair hold a curl all day. I spray this in sections, so right before I curl a section, I will spray this texturizing spray in that area. Then I continue this as I work my way around my head. I found with my fine hair that spraying my whole head first and then curling was not as effective. Not Your Mother’s Double Take Dry Finish Texture Spray
Hairspray: I don’t do any crazy hairstyles that need to be immovable, so I like a lighter hairspray. The scent is very tame and it doesn’t look like I have hairspray in. It keeps my baby hairs in check and doesn’t leave my hair crunchy. Sexy Hair Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Touchable Hair Spray
Skincare: (I Know It’s Important Part of Getting Ready)
Makeup Remover: I don’t like the wipe version of this because it stings my eyes and feels too harsh, but the bottle version is very gentle. Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover
Face Wash: The sheer fact that these are Ben’s two favorite affordable face washes are the only reason I keep purchasing them. He loves the little beads in the grapefruit one for days his face feels quite dirty. But he also likes to alternate with the more gentle cucumber one as well. Yes to Grapefruit Daily Facial Scrub and Yes To Cucumber Daily Gentle Cleanser
Toner: I don’t use toner everyday, I feel it can be a little harsh on my skin if used daily. I typically will use toner at night time to get any traces of makeup or face wash completely off my face before I use my moisturizer. Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Clarifying Toner
Moisturizer: I use this as my day-time moisturizer. It has a SPF of 40, fills in my pores, and has a slight mattifying effect. It’s more pricey, but I’ve tried to find an affordable one that’s comparable and have come up empty-handed. Tizo Solar Protection Formula, Facial Mineral Fusion SPF 40
Pore Strips: Ben’s absolute favorite. Ben loves looking to see how many blackheads it removed. Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips
Acne Spot-Treatment: Another one of Ben’s favorite. A few days ago, I didn’t see a zit I had on the side of my face and he came up to me and put this treatment on it. He’s a firm believer in it. He puts it on before bed and wakes up, “Megan, my zit is gone!!” I mean it doesn’t dissappear, but it definitely helps with the whitehead redness and inflammation. This stuff works, but it does sting! Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment
